This is the best version - best sound quality, the sax intro is solid, great clarinet support, good vocals from Erika, the band has gotten the entire tune in its fingers. I'm surprised that no-one has commented on the quality and commitment of Shea's cornet playing. She's driving this performance forward, and her playing is spot-on, both in solo and ensemble.

But this is a unified, one piece performance. You can’t take any one of them out of it and make it work like this.

The sax player must have been born with the sax in his mouth. Must have been painful for his mother though.
Egyptian ella was first recorded in 1933
@@andyb7963 The sound did carry into the 30s until it evolved into the mellow, silky sax sound of the Big Band era.
I’m 14 and this style of music is absolutely spectacular!! It’s something anyone of any age can enjoy- listening or playing. As a pianist, jazz is a style I’ve always adored and I try to learn more jazz pieces because they just have this special feel and they just give you joy to play.

You ever listened to a pack of Foxhounds, burning up a trail? Tuba Skinny reminds me of my Louisiana childhood. With my dad, Friday night on Bayou Serpent, listening to a chorus of Walker Hounds' voices, each distinctive, yet blending in perfect harmony. Taking turns, pausing, coming together in hair-raising wonder. What a thrill. Fixed on the blending notes bouncing off the cypress trees and calm waters. That's what Tuba Skinny does. They take me back to bayou and a magical time.
Sometimes I just can't breathe. Sound becomes more important than air.
We ran Gray Fox. No guns. No drinking. No animal was ever caught or hurt. All races went to ground or up a tree. The fox would give the dogs the slip when they had had enough fun. Foxhunters run fox just to listen to the hounds.
Tuba Skinny takes me back to the bayou. What a pure sound.
The tenor sax player has nailed the period tone and style exactly! This is joyous music.
That's the tone Adolphe Sax intended. It's obtained with a large chamber mouthpiece with a high, flat baffle.

The Clarinetist is on point! - seamless transitions between the registers. This band is awesome.
He's English. I used to see that guy around London all the time. He literally always had a reed instrument in his hand. He has played with EVERYone. So cool to see him pop up in New Orleans doing his thing with other great players.
Yup, that's Ewan Bleach you're talking about, check out his Sax interplay with John Doyle's clarinet in ' Fingering with your Fingers' alongside all the other Tuba Skinny gang. It doesn't get better!

These guys are consistent in producing great music, it is hard to not like most of their numbers.

This is an absolutely brilliant rendition and performance. Tuba Skinny is the best in the world. Fair absolutely brilliant individually and collectively. Erika Lewis often sounds like a reincarnation of Bessie Smith and the other brilliant singers of her day. Erika really captures that sound.
My feet won't stop moving... this is the real stuff and these musicians are awesome!

Incredible performance and solos. What impressed me was washboard man giving his best on the humblest of instruments.
I grew up with Dixie band music in 1960'/ 70's because of my Dad. Loved it ever since. You guys are so lively and interesting, masters with your instruments. A twinge and a trick with each piece of music. You are great musicians, each segment perfectly directed. Love the dress code as well, sooooo laid back and casual - befitting your style
